Recruiting & Social Media

If you’re a high school prospect, it is becoming increasingly important to have a Twitter and/or Facebook account for recruiting purposes. If you don’t, it’s fairly simple to set up (some examples below).

Here are examples of Twitter accounts from some of our athletes:

Kyle Flood: I Was Up Recruiting Until 2:30 a.m.

Today is the first day of September which marks the first opportunity college football coaches can email or direct message high school juniors and begins the one phone call per week rule to senior prospects.

And since recruiting is competitive and recruits never forget which coaches contact them first, Rutgers head coach Kyle Flood stayed up later than you last night.

In fact, Flood was up until 2:30 a.m. this morning.

During his weekly press conference on Monday, Flood said, “It was great. I was here in the office until I think a little bit past 1:30 and then when I got home, because you send out your initial messages and finally you’re allowed to communicate with some of these players and then it’s always a little surprising to me that they are up and they are waiting for them.

“I got quite a few responses and now you’re responding to the responses because I didn’t want them to think it was just a computer generated message going out. I ended up being up, probably awake till about 2:30 in the morning responding to messages, and then I just tapped out. I said, okay, I’m going to bed; you should, too. Most of the young people are on Twitter these days. There’s still a couple that are still hanging on to Facebook but those are the two main ones.”

This can be the life of a college football coach.

No word yet on if Spurrier was up DM’ing until 2 a.m., but we’ll let you know if we hear.
